USS sues contractors over plant blast

U.S. Steel Corp. is seeking payments in excess of $75,000 from a pair of contractors it claims are responsible for a January 2008 explosion at its Great Lakes Works in Michigan that left one worker dead and another injured.

Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel is seeking damages in its lawsuit brought against contractors R.J. Stacey Ltd., Troy, Mich.; and Mid-American Gunite Inc., Newport, Mich.

The complaint was filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division. The Great Lakes Plant is located in Ecorse and River Rouge, Mich. The explosion occurred in an area identified as Zug Island.....
