Talley Metals hikes stainless bar, rod pricing 5% for Feb.

Talley Metals Technology Inc., a subsidiary of Carpenter Technology that manufactures stainless bar and rod, has slated a 5-percent price hike across the range of its products starting in February, although market sources are conflicted on whether others will follow.

The company could not be reached for comment on why it was implementing the hike, but market participants speculated it was because an earlier price increase in November had failed. In October the Hartsville, S.C.-based company announced an increase in base prices of 5 percent on all stainless products effective with orders shipped on or after Nov. 1 (AMM, Oct. 15). ....
