Evraz moving HQ to Chicago to be nearer to customers

Jan 21, 2011 | 10:26 AM |

Evraz Inc. North America's decision to relocate its corporate headquarters from Portland, Ore., to Chicago will see numerous employees uprooted but should have little impact on the company's day-to-day steelmaking operations.

Mike Rehwinkel, president and chief executive officer of Evraz NA, told AMM that the move is designed to bring the company geographically closer to a larger portion of its customer base.

"We have (steelmaking) operations in the East and in the West and throughout Canada," Rehwinkel said. "Moving to Chicago brings us closer to more of our customers. We still have the steel operations (in Oregon) that employ 400. That's not going to change, of course. We just think this move makes sense for us geographically."....
