Caterpillar touts strong China trade ties

Caterpillar Inc. on Friday urged stronger trade ties with China and called for quiet diplomacy over threats of trade wars.

The Peoria, Ill.-based company signed a memorandum of understanding Friday at a U.S.-China Trade and Economic Forum during a visit to Chicago by Chinese President Hu Jintao after his meetings earlier in the week with President Obama.

Caterpillar, which builds farm, construction, forestry, mining and other heavy equipment, said bilateral trade with China is vital and that the economic relationship between the two nations should be strengthened. ....
