Metal firms hiring, jobless rate falls

The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 9 percent in January, down 0.4 point from the previous month, although nonfarm payroll employment added just 36,000 jobs, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.
Manufacturing employment inched up 0.4 percent, or by 49,000 jobs, last month on a seasonally adjusted basis. The primary metals industry added 1,500 jobs, a 0.4-percent gain from December, while employment in the fabricated metal products sector increased 1 percent, or 12,800 jobs.....
