AISI supports Obama manufacturing goal

PITTSBURGH President Obama has focused on the need to strengthen American manufacturing to help the country regain its footing as a global economic power, and the American Iron and Steel Institute said its members are poised to play a key role in helping the United States restore its manufacturing base.
"We definitely are trying to take the same approach (Obama) did to actions aimed at creating jobs and creating export opportunities," AISI president and chief executive officer Thomas J. Gibson told AMM in an interview. "We are in support of a six-year highway bill and the jobs that would create. We think a focus, from a steel standpoint, on research and development is an appropriate route to take."....
