DiMicco urges action, AISI relaunches ASC

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Top Nucor Corp. executive Daniel R. DiMicco is calling on Congress and the White House to step up to bat on his field of legislative and regulatory goals.

DiMicco, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Nucor and chairman of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), laid out these goals in his state of the industry address Tuesday at a joint AISI-Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) annual meeting.

First, DiMicco wants to see the government help restore U.S. manufacturing by supporting fair and balanced trade. He cited a claim made at the conference Monday by speaker James W. Paulsen, chief investment strategist at Wells Capital Management Inc., that the United States has long financed the economic development of other countries and it is now time to reap the rewards of that investment—namely, access to trade with those nations.....
