NEW YORK Steel import permit applications slipped to 2.48 million tonnes in June, down 2.6 percent from the previous month, with at least one analyst questioning whether a decline in permits for slab from Brazil signals a ramp-up problem at ThyssenKrupp Steel USA LLCs new Alabama facility.
License data from the Commerce Departments Import Administration shows a major decrease in permits issued for semifinished steel in the form of blooms, billets and slab, which tumbled 27.8 percent to 548,555 tonnes from 760,051 tonnes in Mays preliminary import data.....
