Investigation seeks to unearth rare earths offenders

SHANGHAI, China China has started an investigation of its rare earths industry aimed at disciplining the sector and bringing it under tighter government control as high prices fuel a production boom.
The probe aims to "maintain normal production and circulation of rare earth products," Chinas Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on its Web site.
Government officials will check if miners and rare earths processors are sticking to official rules, including environmental, safety and technical standards, as well as production quotas.....
