Bri-Chem micro-mill starts, eyes further projects

TORONTO — Bri-Chem Corp. has begun production at its new seamless pipe micro-mill in Edmonton, Alberta, and has its eyes on further growth, including possible new pipe mill projects in the United States, according to a company executive.
The Edmonton-based distributor and steel pipe maker started production at the new plant at the beginning of the month, Bri-Chem chief financial officer Jason Theiss told AMM.
Bri-Chem made its first shipment of 40-foot lengths of 18-inch-outside-diameter standard A106B seamless pipe Sept. 15, the company said Thursday. Another 90 pieces of pipe have been manufactured and are waiting for final testing before shipment.
The facility, which conservatively will have an annual production capacity of between 20,000 and 25,000 tons per year, is currently operating on one shift but could add a second shift within the next 30 to 60 days, Theiss said.....
