Eramet idling manganese capacity on low tags

NEW YORK — French ferroalloys producer Eramet Group, parent company of domestic producer Eramet Marietta Inc., will idle capacity at its Norwegian facilities in the fourth quarter due to poor market conditions in the manganese alloy market.

"They’ve told the union that due to the market conditions we’re going to take some maintenance outages in the fourth quarter," a source familiar with the matter told AMM. "The length of the maintenance outage will depend on market conditions. It’s still under discussion."

The company has shipped a significant amount of material to the United States from Norway to support the operations of Eramet Marietta, which has been running only two out of three furnaces at its plant this year after an incident in March last year forced the company to declare force majeure on delivery of refined (low- and medium-carbon) and high-carbon ferromanganese (AMM, March 11, 2010).....
