Metals USA earnings jump to $16.7M

CHICAGO — National service center chain Metals USA Holdings Corp. posted net income of $16.7 million in the third quarter, a nearly three-fold increase from the same period last year, on sales that climbed 42.6 percent to $492.3 million.

"Despite headwinds from a less-than-ideal economic situation in the U.S. and a string of bad news every day, we were able to deliver strong results," chairman, president and chief executive officer Lourenco Goncalves said Friday during the company’s earnings call with analysts.....
