PMI weakens; manufacturing outlook mixed

CHICAGO — Economic activity in the manufacturing sector continued to expand in October, albeit weakly, according to the Institute for Supply Management’s latest manufacturing survey, which put the purchasing managers’ index (PMI) at 50.8 for October, down 0.8 percentage points from 51.6 in September but still above the 12-month low of 50.6 in August. ....
