Greater infrastructure spending urged

MIAMI — A fixed highway and railroad system, coupled with a massive increase in population and trade demand, makes for inefficiencies in the nation’s infrastructure network, according to a transportation expert.
If the United States chooses to spend money on infrastructure, not only would the demand problem be solved but there would be an increase in jobs in the steel, manufacturing and construction sectors, said Leo Penne, program director for freight transportation and economic development at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
"In terms of demand and supply, demand exceeds supply a great deal, especially on the highway side," he said Monday at AMM’s sixth annual Moving Metals Conference in Miami.....
