Communication saves transportation costs, say metal managers

MIAMI — Transportation and logistics managers at three metal companies said they’re doing better than ever at managing costs by forming close relationships with their carriers and drivers, stressing that communication is paramount.

Columbus, Ohio-based Worthington Industries Inc. closely manages its schedules now due to stricter regulations that went into effect this past year, but the company finds it cost-effective to also cater to drivers, Worthington corporate transportation director Sue Wood said Monday during AMM’s sixth annual Moving Metals Conference in Miami.....
