Trucking regulations said burdensome

MIAMI — High driver turnover and a difficult economy, coupled with stringent federal regulations, is hurting the trucking and freight sector, according to transportation experts.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) 2010 Program is hurting revenue because of strict regulations for truck drivers, they said Tuesday at AMM’s sixth annual Moving Metals Conference in Miami.
"CSA 2010 will have a significant impact in the marketplace, not only from the standpoint of how companies look at the government Web site or how we measure ourselves but trying to find drivers to meet the standards," said Tom Ferkany, vice president of universal trade solutions at Fraley & Schilling Inc., a Rushville, Ind.-based trucking company.....
