Michigan recycler sued for $2.3M following blaze

PITTSBURGH — A Michigan metals recycler is being sued for more than $2 million for damage caused by a fire that ignited shortly after the company removed metals from an industrial building.
IndiGreen LLC of Alton, Ill., filed the negligence lawsuit against Renu Recycling Inc. in U.S. District Court in Illinois.
After purchasing a group of interconnected buildings in Carthage, Ind., in 2008 for the purpose of building a renewable-energy plant, IndiGreen hired Redford, Mich.-based Renu to remove metals and equipment left behind by the previous owner, according to court documents. Renu agreed to pay the owner $100,000 plus 50 percent of the profits of the scrap metal....
