Wis. may overhaul iron ore permitting process

PITTSBURGH — A draft of an iron ore bill has been introduced by Republicans in the Wisconsin state legislature that, if approved, would fast-track mining permit processes and reduce litigation against approved projects.

The bill, which hasn’t been titled, could come up for vote as soon as January. If enacted, it would require the state’s Department of Natural Resources to approve or deny iron mine applications within 360 days; any permit not acted upon in this timeframe would automatically....
