PITTSBURGH — Returning used beverage cans (UBCs) that are earmarked for recycling in order to recoup a deposit creates more jobs than curbside efforts do, according to a recent study by the Container Recycling Institute (CRI).
The study—titled Returning to Work: Understanding the Domestic Jobs Impacts from Different Methods of Recycling Beverage Containers—found that 11 to 38 times more jobs are created in areas that offer a deposit return system. There are 3,700 redemption centers in the....
