NEW YORK — U.S. crude steel output inched higher on a per-day basis in November even as overall production dipped slightly in the 30-day month, World Steel Association (WorldSteel) data show.
Domestic steel output totaled nearly 7.2 million tonnes—about 239,200 tonnes per day—in November, marking a modest per-day increase from the 235,300-tonne-per-day average recorded in October.
The higher daily production rate comes as three domestic mills—RG Steel LLC, Sparrows Point, Md.; ThyssenKrupp Steel USA LLC, Calvert, Ala.; and Severstal Columbus LLC, Columbus, Miss.—continue to ramp up additional capacity. At the same time, most U.S. mills are keeping run rates elevated in order to meet the influx of new sheet orders booked when prices hit their recent lows (AMM, Oct. 31).
