CLOSE TO CLOSE: Copper prices steady at close after mid-day slump

Copper prices were holding above $7,400 per tonne at the close of trading on Wednesday, rebuilding after a mid-day slump.
Three-month copper closed for the day at $7,455 per tonne, up $45 on Tuesday’s close and above its opening price.
Movements in base metals markets were swayed throughout the day by the European Central Bank’s issuance of €489 billion ($626 billion) in three-year loans to hundreds of banks in the eurozone.
