Beowulf halts iron ore dilling at Kallak on permitting issue, Saami community opposes project

British AIM-listed exploration company Beowulf Mining has stopped drilling at its Kallak iron ore project in northern Sweden after being found to not have a valid work permit.
The case was brought to light by the indigenous Saami community, which is concerned about the impact on its way of life and the effect on the environment from Beowulf's drilling.
Beowulf stopped drilling at the Kallak project in the third week of December after a Saami rights group found that its work plan for the site expired in November 2010.
“[Drilling without a work permit] was purely an oversight,” Beowulf ceo Clive Sinclair-Poulton told Metal Bulletin. “This is more about the conflict between those who want no economic development of the region and those who do.”....
