METAL THEFT: Sita UK launches cashless payment system for scrap

Recycling and resource management company Sita UK has gone cashless.

The first customer of the day on Friday December 16 is nothing like the dodgy-looking guy who usually turns up to sell scrap.

Instead, it is a young woman wearing a trendy coat, skinny jeans and chipped, red nail polish. Confused as to why all eyes are on her, she babbles nervously: “Sorry, I’m just here to collect the money for my zinc.”

In a cramped booth in a scrapyard in Hayes, an accountant-type agent ready to make an online payment for the material, asks the woman to provide ID and her bank details. Still rather perplexed, she takes out her driving licence and a credit card. ....
