NEW YORK — Lowering the cap on truckers’ driving hours could hurt supply chains and efficiency, some industry players argue.

Final safety rules handed down by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) require drivers to reduce the maximum daily driving time to 11 hours from 12 hours, and operate the rigs for no more than 70 hours per week vs. an average of 82 hours previously. They also can’t drive after working eight consecutive hours without taking a 30-minute or longer break. ....
