Scrap industry surges to $100B in 2011: ISRI

NEW YORK The U.S. scrap recycling industry grew nearly 30 percent to $100 billion in 2011 from the previous year, according to preliminary data gathered by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.
The scrap industry processed some 134 million tonnes of recyclables last year, according to the Washington-based trade group, whose data was based on information from the U.S. Geological Survey, the Commerce Department, industry associations and other undisclosed sources.....
