Centers' shipments off but business "stable"

CHICAGO — A slight dip in February steel shipments from a month earlier hasn’t deterred service centers from feeling confident about the pace of business for 2012.

"Business is stable. It’s not great, (but) it’s not bad," the owner of warehouses in Michigan and Indiana said.

"Nothing has changed out there. . . . Our customers are saying March is going to dip from February on a daily basis, but there is no cause for concern," one Southeastern distributor told AMM. "(Business activity) won’t go up five or ten percent, but we are seeing a steady, slow climb in value and tons so far this year. It’s building momentum."....
