SPOTLIGHT: Turkish, CIS longs exporters still reeling from Arab Spring effect

Turkish, CIS billet and rebar exporters have seen substantial decreases in volumes to some countries in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region since the Arab Spring in February 2011.
According to traders at the Steel Orbis and International rebar exporters & producers assn traders committee meeting in London on Monday April 2, the anti-government protests which started in Tunisia at the end of January last year and spread to Egypt, Bahrain and Syria in February, have had a knock-on effect on trading.
The political instability and uncertainty stopped Turkish and CIS exports to the affected countries, which dampened demand in the surrounding countries in the Mena region.
