Indonesia’s mineral ore export tax ‘not confirmed’

Indonesia has not confirmed when or how much it will tax mineral ore exports ahead of the proposed ban in 2014, government officials told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday April 4.
“We do plan to impose taxes on ores to prevent miners [from mining excessively] before the 2014 ban,” Budi Irmawan, the industry ministry’s director for metal, textile and miscellaneous industries, told Metal Bulletin.
“But the plan is still in the early stages. We haven’t decided when or how much tax to impose,” he said.
