Alcoa to cut 390,000T of alumina capacity

NEW YORK — Alcoa Inc. will reduce its alumina capacity by 390,000 tonnes per year to align production with previously announced smelter curtailments, the company said Thursday.

The Pittsburgh-based aluminum producer plans to cut alumina output at its refiners in the Atlantic region, and expects the closures to be completed in the next few days, a spokeswoman told AMM. The Atlantic region represents about 50 percent of Alcoa’s total global refining capacity of 18 million tonnes per year.....
