Aluminum alloy margins under pressure

NEW YORK — Free-market aluminum alloy prices have dropped, putting extra pressure on alloy producers’ margins as scrap prices continue to resist London Metal Exchange price declines.

A380.1 dropped to $1.08 to $1.10 per pound Thursday from $1.09 to $1.11 at the beginning of the week. But old sheet was unchanged at 73 to 75 cents per pound and old cast remained at 75 to 77 cents, although painted siding, mixed low-copper clips and mixed high-copper clips all eased by a penny per pound.....
