Aluminum slag monofill opens after 6-year fight

NEW YORK — Tennessee Aluminum Processors Inc. (TAP) and Smelter Service Corp. said that their aluminum slag monofill in Mount Pleasant, Tenn., is finally operational after a six-year battle.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation told the aluminum recyclers this week that "the first cell of the permitted monofill has been constructed in accordance with the approved plans and may begin accepting waste," the Mount Pleasant-based companies said.....
