As in Dublin a year ago, attendees at the 2012 Metal Bulletin Zinc and Its Market conference in Milan were searching for transparency in a market that has been muddied by the ongoing ructions in the global economy.
While the demand picture appears stable in northern Europe and the USA, and is poised to grow in Asia, zinc prices and the overall appetite for metal could be hurt badly by tail-risk events, delegates said.
As Ocean Partners trader John Foley explained in one of the more upbeat presentations in Milan, a quip from post-war British prime minister Harold Macmillan offers an analogy....
