Distributor aluminum shipments keep climbing

NEW YORK — March marked another strong month for aluminum product shipments by U.S. and Canadian service centers, and industry sources expect the trend will continue into the summer.

Shipments are strong due to solid demand from end-users, while the falling aluminum price on the London Metal Exchange has kept inventories low—good news for distributors, sources say.

"Service centers should be happy. They have no inventory and they’re shipping more metal. That’s their dream," one service center executive told AMM.

"The overall (feeling) is optimistic. You’ll certainly find naysayers and doubters, but there’s a general sense that things are moving forward," a second service center source said. ....
