Energy costs pose challenge for Chile miners

SANTIAGO, Chile — Chilean copper producers are losing their competitiveness due to rising energy costs, according to Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (Codelco) chief executive Diego Hernandez.

"We’re losing competitiveness because of power costs increasing," Hernandez said at CRU Group’s 11th World Copper Conference in Santiago on Tuesday. "The cost and availability (of power) are something the country has to address."....
