Al billet demand takes temporary breather

NEW YORK The U.S. aluminum billet market has logged a slight slowdown in recent days compared with the blistering pace reported earlier this year, market sources told AMM.
Demand still remains strong compared with late 2011, but order entry has eased back slightly as it appears some consumers have finally restocked their depleted inventories, sources said.
"I heard of a little softening in May from a couple of (consumers), but nothing significant. It may (be the case) that they grabbed enough billet earlier in the year," a source at one billet producer said.
A supplier source agreed. "I think there was a general panic at the end of last year, so January and February were strong as people restocked. Now (demand) seems to be at normal levels," he said.....
