Antimony focus shifting away from China

China’s share of world antimony mine supply declined to 75% in 2011 from 85% in 2009, fuelling a massive and continuing shift on global antimony markets, Judith Chegwidden of Roskill Information Services told delegates at the MMTA conference in Cologne.

A large proportion of Chinese antimony metal production is already dependent on imported concentrate and this trend will continue in the long-term, she added.
“High-grade ore deposits in Hunan are becoming depleted. A high concentration of antimony processing plants in Hunan will become dependent on antimony imports,” Chegwidden told Metal Bulletin on the sidelines of the conference. ....
