US Steel Europe results improve after Serbia divestment

US Steel’s European division performed significantly better quarter-on-quarter in the first three months of 2012 but still reported a $17 million loss, it said on Wednesday April 25.
The Pittsburgh-based company’s only remaining steelmaking plant on the continent, US Steel Kosice (USSK) in Slovakia, was behind the segment’s near-75% improvement in the quarter, after reporting a loss of $67 million in the previous quarter.
The Kosice plant’s result did reflect a 22.7% improvement from its $22 million net loss in the fourth quarter of 2011, the company....
