Consumers want more assurance on conflict tin

Downstream tin buyers are asking the International Tin Research Institute (ITRI) to start a conflict-free tin label initiative to encourage greater acceptance for tin sourced from Central Africa. “We are closely associated with the Malaysia Smelting Corp [MSC]. And it’s true we have been buying tin from them,” Kum Fatt Wong, md of RedRing Solder, said at the International Tin Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. “We have had problems [proving] to our buyers in the US and Europe that our tin solders are conflict-free,” he said.
