NEW YORK Rio Tinto Alcan and the union representing workers at its Alma smelter in Quebec are in a deadlock, with no meetings on the horizon nearly four months after the company locked out workers.
The Montreal-based aluminum producer and the Syndicat des Travailleurs de lAluminium dAlma, part of the United Steelworkers union, met with a federal mediator four times in March (AMM, April 4), the first meetings since Alcan locked out some 755 plant workers on Jan. 1 (AMM, Jan. 25). ....
