ATI titanium shipments slow in first 3 months

LOS ANGELES Allegheny Technologies Inc.s ability to meet its 2012 titanium shipment target could hinge on a non-aerospace industrial market that has yet to meet expectations.
Richard J. Harshman, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Pittsburgh-based ATI, estimated in January that its shipments this year would rise 7 to 8 percent from last years 45 million poundsmuch lower than the 20-percent growth rate of 2011 (AMM, Jan. 26).
But ATIs first-quarter titanium results didnt keep up with that moderated growth outlook, reaching a little more than 10 million pounds.....
