Coated steel outlook up amid auto, housing rise

DEARBORN, Mich. — The outlook for the U.S. galvanized and coated steel sector continues to improve, with lighter-weight coated products in particular expected to reap the benefits of Detroit’s fuel-efficiency efforts, industry leaders say.
Although a number of end-use sectors are showing signs of strength, booming automotive demand and an improving housing and construction sector appear to be the key drivers for coated steel producers in the mid-term, executives said during a roundtable discussion at AMM’s Galvanized and Coated Metals Conference in Dearborn, Mich.....
