Mexico’s largest extruder heads for US

NEW YORK — Aluminum extruder Grupo Cuprum is looking to break into North American markets and run its first extrusion press in the United States in the next two years.

Larry Gransberry, director of sales and general manager of Cuprum Inc., the Mexican company’s U.S. division, is spearheading Monterrey-based Grupo Cuprum’s expansion from its Irving, Texas, sales office.

Grupo Cuprum, Mexico’s largest extruder, operates three extrusion plants in Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City, which have a combined annual capacity of 154 million pounds.

But the company’s goal is to run an extrusion operation in the United States, either through the acquisition of an existing facility or via a joint venture in the next 18 to 24 months, Gransberry told AMM.....
