Turkey takes shine to US scrap as imports rise 25% in Q1

Turkish steel mills are increasingly attracted to the higher quality of US scrap, as official figures show a rise by more than a quarter from the country in the first quarter of 2012 against last year.
Scrap import reached to 1.24 million tonnes from US, up 25.1%. This exceeds the growth of scrap import from EU, which rose 14.3%, according to data from Turkish Iron & Steel Producers Association. Scrap imports from Russia stood at 438,000 tonnes.
