Beijing to subsidize energy-saving home appliances

Metal demand in China may increase after the Chinese government announced it will spend 26.5 billion yuan ($4.2 billion) subsidising energy-saving home appliances. The state council has decided to boost consumption of air-conditioning, flat television set, refrigerator, washing machine and water heating machines that conform to energy-saving requirements with the measure, the cabinet said in a statement published late on Wednesday May 16.
