Low price margins concern service centers

CHICAGO — Depressed price margins are causing concern for small and regional steel service centers.

Margins haven’t been strong since early in the year, the owner of a Great Lakes-based chain of flat-rolled warehouses told AMM. Although the media "paint(s) a picture that things are improving, without auto we would be hurting bad."

He said that current measures haven’t been enough to jump-start the economy. "To have job creation, you have to bring back work that was sent overseas and restore our manufacturing base," he said. "We’re not doing that with current policy."....
