CHICAGO Special bar quality (SBQ) producer Republic Steel has broken ground on construction of a new electric furnace (EF) at its Lorain, Ohio, steel works.
Contracts have been awarded and the first heat of steel from the new melt shop is expected to be tapped within the next 12 months, Republic president and chief executive officer Jaime Vigil said in a statement Thursday. The expansion aims to meet growing customer demand for high-grade bars needed by the automotive, capital equipment and energy markets.....
