Weaker prices, soft demand sink nickel scrap

NEW YORK — Nickel scrap prices in the domestic market have fallen amid plummeting nickel prices and weaker demand for most forms of scrap.

"Spring came early; summer came early. Let’s hope fall comes early, too," one dealer said.

Demand typically picks up in the fall after dropping over the summer.

New nickel clips and solids in the Pittsburgh area are now being bought at between $6.45 and $6.60 per pound, down from $6.85 to $7 per pound previously.....
