LOS ANGELES An unusually large drop in a benchmark scrap price appears to have rendered an initial cut in the published price of steel beams inadequate, with Nucor-Yamato Steel Co. acting quickly to account for a new market reality.
Nucor-Yamato on Friday dropped its raw materials surcharge by $58 per ton and raised its base prices by $28 per ton, resulting in a net reduction in its published transaction prices of $30 per ton ($1.50 per hundredweight). This would bring the published price on core wide-flange beam products to $40.50 per cwt.....
