Trucking costs will escalate, PLS exec warns

NEW YORK Companies relying on the trucking industry for their transportation needs could see significantly higher rates and lower availability in the coming years due to reduced fleet sizes and driver shortages, according to an executive at a third-party logistics firm.
"Right now, the industry is in the eye of the storm. There are a lot of fundamental changes going on in motor transport," Jim Ruiz, senior vice president of Pittsburgh-based PLS Logistics Services Inc., told participants at the Steel Success Strategies XXVII conference in New York, co-sponsored by AMM and World Steel Dynamics Inc. (WSD).....
