US slab imports edge 8.5% lower in May vs. April

NEW YORK U.S. steel slab imports fell for the second consecutive month in May, led by major decreases in Mobile, Ala.; Houston-Galveston, Texas; and New Orleans.
Slab imports totaled 522,283 tonnes in May, down 8.5 percent from 570,848 tonnes in April, according to data compiled by AMM from the USA Trade Online system of the Census Bureaus Foreign Trade Division. Those numbers also represented a 36.4-percent plunge from the 821,741 tonnes imported in May 2011. ....
